Glee-ful - warning there are spoilers

Well the hit American TV show from Fox came back with a bang. Glee's Season Two opener Audition hit the network last night and, for those of us daft enough like me to wait to stream it online, early this morning too.

Carrying on from where it left off with Journey, the Season One finale, Glee found the club members still at the bottom of the high school food chain and even a bustin' version of Empire State of Mind couldn't drag in the rest of their reluctant fellow students to join up.

New cast members Chord Overstreet (yep I thought so too when I saw his name but he seems a cute guy) and YouTube internet sensation Charice also made their debuts alongside new football coach Shannon Beiste (pronounced beast, it's French!) and all look like they'll be stirring up matters.

Next week its a theme episode dedicated to former wayward star Britney Spears, should be good!

Feeling Old!

I've always been comfortable in my skin. Okay, I wouldn't object to losing about five stone overnight but as that isn't going to happen, I'm not so bothered. I've also never wished I was a different age than the one I am now because I've never really felt my age before now.

But, for the first time, I am now conscious of the fact I've hit 40 and that, technically, means I'm really and truly a grown up. The reason why I'm so conscious of the fact is because of Glee. It's a TV show on America's Fox network which C4 has been showing on its E4 service. Glee is set in an American high school and centers around the activities of a bunch of kids in the school's Glee Club, which is a kind of show choir that sings and does dance routines.

It reminds me of all the fabulous times I had at school doing drama and taking part in the school musicals and it has a hugely talented cast. The reason I'm now feeling my age is that this show is immense and its fan base is mostly teen age. I feel slightly out of place, as a 40-year-old mum of one, that a TV programme has had such a massive impact.

I seriously can't remember the last time I watched anything which grabbed me in such a way that I not only cannot wait to watch it on TV but that I also go and look online for things like YouTube videos of the cast being interviewed, wallpapers, photos, blogs and biographies for the stars. This is a serious addiction and I feel like I should be 15 and having a major crush on the male lead and not 40 and doing the same thing!

Still, at least Glee is a family friendly TV show, loads of fabulous songs and dance routines, moral dilemmas, teen pregnancy and all that involves, the usual teen angst surrounding whether you "fit in" or not and how to stick two fingers up at the world when you don't fit and don't care either.

Season Two premieres live tonight on Fox at 8pm US time and I'll hopefully be catching up with it online when they put up the streaming version tomorrow. It's time to find out if Finn is still as cute as ever, Rachel as annoyingly talented and how the rest of the gang are coping with having to put up with all the drama. I can't wait!

Figured I ought to have a serious blog too

So, I've been writing since before I could really think about what I was doing and, since the age of 18, I was lucky enough to work for my local newspaper as a journalist covering things which were close to my heart.
In my time I've done pretty much everything. I've covered council meetings, court trials, agricultural shows, pantomimes and all points in between and I've loved all of it. Okay, maybe the time I spent the whole of my 21st birthday covering seriously boring court cases wasn't one of the better days, but still, being able to see your words in print is a pretty amazing feeling.
Since I had my son two years ago though, my writing has pretty much come to a standstill. I do a bit of free (being the operative word) lance work for a lovely website called the MamaPack, which is an ethically sourced bag of goodies given out to expecting mums here in the UK.
It's great having a column on the site where I can wax lyrical about whatever takes my fancy but sometimes there's subjects which probably aren't really relevant to its audience so this is where this blog comes in.
It has the same title as my MamaPack blog so hopefully people will be able to find the two and link them together. Hopefully I'll get the chance to write a bit more often too.
